The 28mm figures represented here are suitable for use in Greece and the Middle East, as well as the Italian mainland. The troops with tropical helmets can be used in North Africa and would be ideal as guard troops for German and Italian airfields and depots, wary of raids by the Long-Range Desert Group (LRDG) and SAS raiding parties.
A SHORT HISTORY
Similarly, those in traditional home service uniform could be used as guard troops during Mussolini’s captivity and subsequent release by Otto Skorzeny and his Fallschirmjaeger during the famous Gran Sasso raid. Italy formed part of the successful Axis assault on Europe and the Middle East in the early years of success of the Germany and its allies. Italian troops were engaged in the early invasion of the Southern Mediterranean, Balkans and North Africa. Later, they participated in the invasion of Russia.
